What is a System Design?
A system design is probably the most important part of the system development cycle. Failure to create a proper design is the easiest way to make a system fail. It is a plan or a road map for taking your "needs analysis" information and deciding how to get the new or upgraded system in place.
For this reason, TEAM Computer Systems will only undertake a system upgrade project if a system design has been completed.
A System Design consists of:
- Needs Analysis – requirements for the system – what is it to do?
- An itemization of the system currently in place.
- A listing of alternative software applications to be installed – with estimated purchase price.
- A listing of alternative hardware components-with estimated purchase prices.
- A meeting/session to set priorities and decide which alternatives the client can afford and would best fit the client needs.
- A listing of all the tasks and that must be performed in building the system -- with estimated time for each task.
- Time line for implementation.
- System set up review – to avoid conflict with an organization’s daily operations, TEAM sets up a new system off-site, asks the client to review it in a simulation mode, then delivers and sets the system up at the client site.
- Summary of all costs.
- Authorization to proceed – with indications of up-front deposits and payment schedule.
- Evaluation of the project.
